The Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at UJA qualifies you to exercise the regulated profession of Industrial Technical Engineer specialising in Mechanics, with sound training from Linares Higher Polytechnic School.
This bachelor’s programme is accredited by the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE) via the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) and holds the EUR-ACE international quality label.
Mechanical engineers play a very important role in many areas of modern society, from the design and manufacturing of all kinds of goods (vehicles, household appliances, tools, medical equipment, etc.) to the construction, operation and maintenance of the facilities that make this possible (manufacturing plants, power stations, etc.).
Mechanical Engineering graduates are versatile professionals in high demand in the labour market due to their multidisciplinary training, which equips them to work in very different environments and access a wide range of professional opportunities.
The first two years of the course are common to all degree programmes in Industrial Engineering and are made up of basic Engineering modules and more specific Industrial Engineering modules. This gives you the opportunity to switch to another programme if you decide you prefer to specialise in a different area after you’ve started your course. The remaining two years are made up of specific Mechanical Engineering modules. All modules are updated to reflect the latest technological developments and contain a sizeable practical component. It is also possible to study part of the programme abroad and to complete an internship in a company working in the sector. This will ensure a smooth transition as you enter the labour market and allow you to adapt to the ongoing changes taking place in the field.
If you wish to supplement your degree with training in direction and management, the Higher Polytechnic School also offers the opportunity to complete a Double Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Organisation Engineering, which will improve your career prospects still further.

Double undergraduate programmes
The Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is also available as a joint programme with the Bachelor’s Degrees in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electronic Engineering and Industrial Organisation Engineering at Linares Higher Polytechnic School. The Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering may be studied as a double international Bachelor’s degree with Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences (Germany).

The University of Jaén’s policy of optimising its human resources, is favoured by the size of its campus that allows administrative services, technical support, and management to be shared among the courses delivered. This coordinated management policy of the programmes taught at each of the campuses of the University of Jaén (Las Lagunillas Campus and the Scientific-Technological Campus located in Linares) ensures both comprehensive attention to all university programmes together with an individualised attention devoted to each specific one. It coordinates and organises the requirements of each programme in order to optimise the work of human resources.
Furthermore, the University of Jaén’s policy is to centralise the use of the spaces on the campus in order to optimise their occupation while meeting the specific needs of the courses delivered. These shared facilities will be used in part during this degree programme. Although they are not exclusively for use by the students on the programme, it is important to acknowledge their presence as the University allocates certain time slots and facilities to each degree programme from among the available classrooms, laboratories and IT rooms depending on the specific needs of the programmes and in coordination with the other courses taught at the University.

As well as the mobility programmes and the scholarships and grants for mobility from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, the University of Jaén offers specific mobility grants, language skills programmes and opportunities for cultural exchange.
International mobility
All international mobility programmes for students at the University of Jaén are managed centrally by the Vice-rectorate for Internationalisation. This Vice-rectorate draws up the necessary agreements with universities of interest.
The Vice-rectorate for Internationalisation informs students about the different mobility programmes, the host university and programme, the number of places available, the requirements for admission to the mobility programme, the relevant tutors and the available funding on its website.
The school has a mobility coordinator who is responsible for mobility programmes and for organising activities to encourage student participation in this type of programme. Under the mobility agreements, specific academic coordinators are appointed from among the teaching staff, who are responsible for ensuring that the modules to be studied by the exchange students are equivalent to those recognised by their qualification.
Once students have been selected and accept the mobility grant, the Vice-rectorate for Internationalisation will process the documents required by the host university and address any issues arising alongside the academic coordinator.
Once they have been validated by the academic coordinator, the learning contracts signed by the students must also be validated by the school’s mobility coordinator.

Mobility between Spanish universities (SICUE)
National mobility programmes for students at the University of Jaén are managed centrally by the Vice-rectorate for Students and the Student Support Service.
The EPSJ mobility coordinator is responsible for drawing up agreements with other universities, as well as for validating the learning contracts signed by students of the school who participate in these mobility programmes.

Doble Grado en Ingeniería Mecánica por la Universidad de Jaén y Degree program of Mechanical Engineering of University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden (Alemania)
El doble título se obtiene cursando tres cursos en la UJA y uno en la University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden (Alemania). Las asignaturas se cursarán en alemán de acuerdo con el convenio de doble titulación.
La docencia en las asignaturas de todos los grados de la Universidad de Jaén está adscrita a sus Departamentos y estos son responsables, por ejemplo, de seleccionar el profesorado que imparte una determinada asignatura, o de la revisión de la calificación final de tu examen en los casos previstos por el Reglamento de régimen académico y de evaluación del alumnado de la Universidad de Jaén.

El sistema de garantía de calidad de la Universidad de Jaén se estructura en dos niveles de responsabilidad. Por una parte, a través del Vicerrectorado con competencias que coordina los procesos de evaluación de calidad de las titulaciones, departamentos y servicios y, por otra, del Centro responsable del título, que aplica su Sistema de Garantía de Calidad. Es la Comisión de Garantía Interna de Calidad del Centro la encargada de supervisar la aplicación todos los procedimientos de control y mejora de la calidad de sus títulos.

Un elemento importante en el análisis de la calidad del título son los estudios sobre la inserción laboral de los titulados de la Universidad de Jaén, en los que podrás encontrar las salidas profesionales más habituales de las personas que cursaron este grado antes que tú.
Los Departamentos aprueban el Plan de Organización Docente del Departamento y se encargan de la coordinación de los programas y el desarrollo y la calidad de la docencia de las asignaturas que tienen adscritas. La Dirección del Centro elabora el horario de clases y el calendario de exámenes velando por la coordinación general de las asignaturas impartidas por los distintos Departamentos y Áreas de conocimiento.
La coordinación se desarrolla a dos niveles, uno horizontal, estableciendo reuniones periódicas entre los profesores implicados en la docencia de un curso académico, y otra vertical, coordinando la docencia entre los distintos cursos académicos.
Dentro del Sistema de Garantía de Calidad, es la Comisión de Garantía de Calidad del Centro y las Comisiones de Seguimiento de los títulos que de ella se deriven las encargadas de velar por la realización de las sesiones necesarias para facilitar la coordinación correcta en todas las actividades del programa formativo, así como de la propuesta de las acciones de mejora necesarias que garanticen un mejor desarrollo de las enseñanzas.
